Today that is what the sermon was on 2 Peter 1:1-11(the text is below)
He was comparing this to cake. How we always need to be adding things to our Christian walk like a cake to make it you cant just leave out something you keep adding ingredients.
1. Moral excellence= flour
When you add moral excellence to your life you are making more inconveinent decisions. There is more of a conviction to do right and avoiding compromises with God.
2. Knowledge= milk
Having the basic knowledge of God is a good thing to have and if you assume you know you dont.
3. Self control=oil
Saying no. Having the ability to say no to things and sticking up for what you believe in. Being about to kinda put this with moral excellence and having the self control saying no this is wrong.
4. Perseverance= baking powder
Hanging in there when life gets tough
5. Godliness=eggs
Life looking more like God.
6. Brotherly Kindness= vanilla
Having warm gentle affection for everyone
7. Love= sugar
agape love that is unconditional for everyone!
Todays sermon taught me a lot on what I already have in these traits and what I need to work on I thought I would share it. I know its long but when I come on here it will remind me. We even got little reminder cards in church on these 7 things. But Pastor said for you to be growing in these things you need to be growing Christ. You will prove you are one of His if you follow these and show you need God. If you need or havent given your life fully to Christ and have been thinking about it anytime is the right time to. If you have questions dont hesistate to ask :)
2 Peter 1:1-11
1Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
2Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Making One's Calling and Election Sure 3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith moral excellence; and to moral excellence, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
10Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
